Fall 2009 Rec Plus Tournament Complete

Close Matches Characterize Finals

The Fall 2009 Rec Plus tournament is complete, play having begun Friday evening, 11-6-09, with the U12 coed division and having concluded with the U14 coed division championship match Sunday evening, 11-8-09.

Three of the seven finals were decided by Kicks From the Penalty Mark, (PK shootout) and no winning margin was greater than two goals.

In the U8 Girl’s division, the champion is McInerney U8RP C3G, team Lightning, representing Calvert Soccer Association, who won with penalty kicks after the match ended in a 0-0 tie. It took nine attempts from the penalty mark to settle the issue. The runner up was Blottenberger U8RP S3G, the Red Flames, representing St. Mary’s Youth Soccer.

In the U10 Girl’s division, the champion is Matthias, U10RP S3G, the Freedom, representing St. Mary’s Youth Soccer, who took a close 1-0 victory from the runner up, Jones, U10RP, the Vipers, representing Calvert Soccer Association.

In the U12 Girl’s division, the champion is Baker, U12RP C2G, the Storm, representing Calvert Soccer Association, who won 2-0 over the runner up, Summers, U12RP N2G, team Lightning, representing St. Mary’s Northern Soccer League.

The U8 coed division champion is Broadhead, U8RP S2, the Falcons, representing St. Mary’s Youth Soccer, who took a 4-2 victory over the runner up, Harris, U8RP S1, the Hot Tamales, also representing St. Mary’s Youth Soccer.

The U10 coed division championship match ended in a 3-3 tie at full time, victory going to Blottenberger, U10RP S1, the Knights, representing St. Mary’s Youth Soccer, with a 4-3 result on kicks from the penalty mark. The runner up is Wojciechowski, U10RP C2, the Vipers, representing Calvert Soccer Association.

The U12 coed division final featured two teams from St. Mary’s Youth Soccer, Baker U12RP S1, the Hurricanes, and Branthoover, U12RP S2, the Fire. The Fire came away with a 1-0 victory after a close fought and exciting match.

The U14 coed division was also a very close match, ending in a 1-1 tie at the close of full time. The victor is Parriera, U14RP C3, the Lightning, representing Calvert Soccer Association, who outshot the runner up from St. Mary’s Youth Soccer, Polca U14RP S3, the Storm, 4-3 in kicks from the penalty mark to come away with the win.
