Welcome to the St. Mary's Soccer Kiddie Kick Program!

Registration for Fall 2022 is now closed.

Kiddie Kick is a program developed for our youngest players (U04/U05). The main objective is to develop a love for the game. The activities focus on body awareness, basic dribbling skills, and having fun! Commitment to repetitively practicing the core skills in younger players is crucial to unlocking their full potential and creativity as they become older and more experienced players.

Each Kiddie Kick season is comprised of six, hour-long sessions that are held weekly. Kiddie Kick teams do not play scheduled games, but will often scrimmage one another during training sessions. Players will be divided into teams of approximately 8-13 players each, with 2-3 coaches per team. Coaches are provided a training curriculum that is player-centered and developmentally appropriate. St. Mary's Soccer always needs volunteers to step up and coach, especially at the younger ages, so please consider giving a little bit of your time.

Please note that Kiddie Kick has two age groupings. This causes some confusion when parents are expecting friends, cousins, etc., to be in the same group. The age groupings for the fall 2022 season are as follows: U04 (dates of birth from 01/01/2019 to 07/31/2019) and U05 (birth year is 2018). Players must stay in their age group. Kids born before 2018 will play in U06 or above. Kids born after July 31, 2019, are not yet eligible for Kiddie Kick.

Parents who are concerned about carpooling should note a few things. There are only three locations/times for all of Kiddie Kick: Monday evening at Chancellors Run Regional Park field #2, Saturday morning at CRRP field #2, and Saturday morning at Chaptico Park field #2. Because of this setup, kids don't need to be on the same team to facilitate carpooling.

WHEN WILL I HEAR FROM A COACH?

It takes us a little time at the start of every season to get all kids sorted onto teams, and it takes even longer to find coaches for every team. Rest assured that parents will hear from a coach before the first session. There's no need to panic!

If for some reason you haven't heard from a coach (communication does break down sometimes), please head to your location on the first day. SMS representatives at the field will be able to tell you exactly who your coach is and where they are located.

Please consider volunteering to coach, which you can do through the same system you used to register your child. It is a truly rewarding experience that requires no expertise. We even provide a full season of practice plans. Nothing causes more delays than the search for KK coaches that happens every season.

Where do I go?

When Kiddie Kick coaches have their rosters, it is their responsibility to reach out to the parents of players on their team. Be sure to check your spam folder if you haven't heard from a coach. In the event you don't hear from a coach before the first training session, just come to your location (either Chaptico Park field #2 or Chancellors Run Regional Park field #2), and a staff member will happily direct you to your coach. See below for the field grids to find your coach.

Kiddie Kick Curriculum

The Kiddie Kick curriculum is available by clicking below. It will look familiar to previous coaches, as it hasn't changed for a few seasons. We hope to refresh the curriculum soon, when we are fully staffed.

Background Check for Coaches

The county requires all coaches to submit a background check once per calendar year (i.e., every spring season or every fall season, depending on your schedule).  Badges are then printed and can be picked up at Leonard Hall.  It takes a few weeks.  You might (or might not) get an email from the county letting you know your badge is ready.  Be sure to check your spam folder, as this has been a consistent issue.

WHAT TO WEAR AND BRING

All players are required to wear shin guards covered by socks and sneakers (or cleats if you have them). Your child will also need to have a size 3 soccer ball (marked with their name) and water bottle (marked with their name).

Parents are asked to sit on the outside lines of the main field or outside of the fence (if on a turf field) to assist in preserving the field conditions. Thank you for your help in this endeavor to keep the fields in great shape.

There are restrictions as to what is allowed on the synthetic fields. No chairs or spectators are allowed. Only water is allowed on the turf. Sports drinks and juices are prohibited.

If you are coaching, Saturday, August 27, is reserved for coaches' training. More information will be available as details are confirmed.
